Chongqing History Introduction in the Capital Time

In its some 3,000 years history, Chongqing had been a capital city three times.

Capital of Ba Kingdom: in 1066BC of the Zhou Dynasty.

Capital of Xia Kingdom: In 1363, the general Ming Yuzhen of peasant rebel army cleaned up the power of the Yuan Court in Sichuan and proclaimed himself emperor of the Xia Kingdom.

Wartime capital of the Republic of China: In 1937 when the Sino-Japanese War erupted, the National Government moved to Chongqing later and made Chongqing as the capital.

Nowadays, more and more people come to China to take the Yangtze Cruise to enjoy the attractions on Yangtze River such as Three Gorges, Three Gorges Dam, Three Gorges Project, White Emperor City, Fengdu Ghost City and other scenic spots.

Chongqing History during the Capital Time

During the Anti-Japanese War (1937-1945), Chinese Kuomindang army has been beat. In view of the stable social order, Chongqing was approved as the wartime capital in November, 1937. On the 11th December, 1937 Chongqing was officially approved as the wartime capital. In the September of 1937, Sichuan army recovered the concession.

In 1938, the embassies of England, America, France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland have been moved into Chongqing City. In 1940, Chongqing was considered as the permanent wartime capital. On the 5th June, 1941 there was an incident that about 7764 people was smothered in the tunnel. The people were plan to escape the bombing of Japanese. In the December, Chongqing declared the war with the Germany and then the Germany embassy was closed. In the meanwhile, the Korea government-in-exile was approved to move into Yuzhong District from1941-1945.

From the 1937 to 1944, as the wartime capital, more and more people from Zhejiang Province, Hunan Province, Anhui Province, Hubei Province, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai City and other cities else come to Chongqing. At the same tiem, thousands and thousands of industries and enterprises moved into Chongqing. Thus, Chongqing was considered as the center of politics, economy, and culture and command center of Antifascist War.

According to the data, during the time of Bombing of Chongqing, about 11889 people was died during the war and 14100 people was injured. Chongqing became the largest battlefield of air combat. Nowadays, there is a monument for died fire department of the war time in People's Public in Yuzhong District. There is memorial site of Chongqing Bombing in Jiaochangkou in Yuzhong Distrcit.

In 1945, the anti-Japanese war was ended. The capital was moved to Nanjing City again. Nowadays, the Kuomindang Government was moved to Taiwan, Bur Chongqing was still considered as the permanent second capital (a city established as a second capital besides the capital) of China in law.
