On the 22nd February, 2012, on the Tibetan New Year's Day, large numbers of Tibetan people come to Johkang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and Potala Palace to pray for best wishes of next year. According to the Tibetan folk customs, Tibetan people always get together in the religious place to welcome the coming of Tibetan New Year's Day.

In Johkang Temple, people burn joss sticks towards the Buddha statues. Dense smoke covers the sky of the square of Johkang Temple. People continuously add the mulberry leaf, Zanba, highland barley, wheat and barley wine into the censer. In the 21st evening, the prayer ceremony was held in Johkang Temple at 10 o'clock p.m.

Celebration on Tibetan New Year's Day

On the 22nd February every year, it is the New Year's Day of Tibetan calendar. With the blue sky and high clouds, each of Tibetan people prays to the Buddha to make the best wishes.

When the sunshine shines in Lhasa City, Tibet looks like existing in the heaven. There is a huge box and eight treasure maps of good luck putting in front of Potala Palace. Two of golden dragon pillars are standing on both sides. Walk in Lhasa City and enjoy the red lanterns and colorful silk flowers on both sides. Besides that, every stores and banks and shops hang the horizontal scroll of painting or calligraphy on the doors.

At 11 o'clock am, the festival party was holding in Lhasa City. Tibetan dance and song deeply attract people.
