Yangtze River Civilization Ⅰ – Historic Sites

Yangtze River Basin is one of the places for living people from ancient times. There are large numbers of historic sites survived along the Yangtze River. In Jiangbei of Anhui Province, the Homo erectus fossil has been found. After that, some of the relics of ancient people have also been explored.

In Chinese history, the political history always exists in Yellow River Basin and North China. Yangtze River Basin has much more economic significance to Chinese people because of advanced agriculture. The Grand Canal was constructed for assuring the transportation of grain from Southern China to Northern China. The south part of the Grand Canal has been used the 4th Century ago. But some parts of the Grand Canal have been used in the 7th Century.

Yangtze River Civilization Ⅰ – The Upper Reaches of Yangtze River

In Yangtze River history, in the upper reaches of Yangtze River, there are tens of historic sites have been found in Three Gorges region, Ganzi Region, Ngawa Region, Anning River, and Yalong River. The Daxi cultural sites in Mt. Wushan are famous all over the world. After twice excavated respectively in 1959 and in 1975, 214 of tombs have been found including funeral subjects of stone axe, stone mirror, stone chisel, net sinker, fishhook, arrow chain, and spinning wheel and other means of production. Besides other production tools and decorations have been found. All of which are representative of the three different development stages of Neolithic period.

Yangtze River Civilization Ⅰ – Middle Reaches of Yangtze River

The historic sites of Neolithic period have been found all over the Jianghan area of China, especially in Jianghan Plain. Jianghan Plain is the intersection of Han River and the middle reaches of Yangtze River. There are more than 450 of historic sites have been found in Hubei Province.

For example, Qujialing Culture highlights the features of Neolithic period. It is characteristic of small color pottery and painted pottery spinning wheel and other ancient products. Lots of animal fossils ave been found during the time of Neolithic period, besides some rice.
