Located in south central Anhui Province, Mt. Jiuhuashan or "Mount Jiuhua" is one of the four Buddhism Mountains in China; other three are Mt. Wutai, Mt. Putuo, and Mt. Emei. The one hundred square kilometer area is known for its quiet beauty, which includes ridges and peaks, winding paths, fountains, pine trees, waterfalls and streams, as well as ancient temples.

With a favorable climate, it is a popular summer resort. Observant Buddhist pilgrims come here to climb to Greater Tiantai peak, regarded as Mt. Jiuhuashan's most important, although not the tallest. Through the centuries, the mountain has attracted men or arts and letters. The construction of temples began in the Tang Daynasty and was enlarged in subsequent dynasties.

"Huacheng Temple" is the oldest on the mountain. By the mid to late Tang Dynasty, there were hundreds of monasteries and thousands of monks living here. The Buddhist influence still remains throughout this area.

Depending on river conditions, alternate excursions may be substituted as follows: Day 2: Wanzhou; Day 3: Shennong Stream.
