Three Gorges Dam History – Inspection

While the project of Three Gorges Project was designed and prepared, Chongqing municipal government suggested different opinions of the project to central authority. The normal water level of Three Gorges reservoir was expected to increase to 180 meters by Chongqing municipal government.

In the 7th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Three Gorges Dam Project has been become the important issue and brought arguments. At that time, the normal water level is 150 meters. Some of members of the CPPCC National Committee have different suggestions about Three Gorges Dam Project. Chongqing municipal government thought that the water level could able to increase to 180 meters.

Thus the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council has promulgated the notice about the issues of Three Gorges Project that assure the surety and the sustainable development of Three Gorges Dam in June 1986.

According to the notice, the research report of normal water level of 150 meters has been surveyed and modified by the experts in different professional fields that were organized by Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Electric Power. And then, the review committee of Three Gorges Project of State Council has been established take charge of the report of Three Gorges Dam.

In May 1989, the issue of normal water level of 175 meters has been approved after a long-term inspection in Three Gorges Dam History.

Three Gorges Dam History – Ten Years' Construction Process

Since the issue of Three Gorges Project approved on the 3rd April, 1992, it takes around 10 years' construction process. During the ten years, many central leaders and experts has visited Three Gorges Dam for assuring the success of Three Gorges Project.
