The Tomb of General Bamanzi

During the Warning State Period, a man with the high personal morality was buried respectfully by two States after his death, which is an astonishing but believable of Chinese history. He is the General Bamanzi with a legendary life.

General Bamanzi Tomb has been rebuilt for five times since the Qing Dynasty with continuously argue of its exact location. Some people insist that the head of General Bamanzi was buried in Hubei Province while the body was buried in Chongqing municipality. There is few history record of General Bamanzi and nobody knows the exact appearance and clothes and weaponry of him.

The Tomb of General Bamanzi – Brief Introduction

Bamanzi Tomb is commonly called the "General Tomb" and located at Qixinggang of Yuzhong District of Chongqing Municipality. There is a paragraph of inscriptions on the tombstone.

The graveyard of Bamanzi Tomb was designed like a vaulted stone cave with a total coverage area of 20 square meters, while the Bamanzi Tomb was designed as the shape of hexagon with 2.65 meters in wide and 2.3 meters in high. It has been sealed off by the stones which the center tombstone stands with the height of 1.5 meters and the width of 1 meter. The top of the Bamanzi Tomb looks like a shape of roundness sealing off with the material of Sanhehui (it made of the stone, the cement and the sand).

The Tomb of General Bamanzi – History

Bamanzi is a General of the Ba State of the Warning State Period and born in Linjiang City in Eastern Zhou Dynasty. According to the history, General Bamanzi asked for help of Chu State during the war and promised three cities for remuneration. In the end, General said to Chu State, he can't give up the cities and the people of Ba state. As atone for his crime, he cut his head for apology, which make the King of Ba and Chu State moved. After that, the head of General Bamanzi was buried by Chu State and the body was buried by Ba State. Thus the descendants changed the name of Linzhou into Zhongzhou because of the loyalty of General Bamanzi. (Zhong meant loyalty in Chinese)
