Eling Park – Brief Introduction

Eling Park located in Yuzhong District of Chongqing Municipality, which is the earliest private garden and the first standardization management level standard park of Chongqing Municipality. It is the AAA national tourist scenic spot and the popular science base of Yuzhong District.

Eling Park is also called Edinlin named from its shape similar with the the neck of goose's, which lies at the mountain ridge of steep cliffs between Yangtze River and Jialing River.

It is said that the Mountain was considered to hole through by an official of Shu-Han Dynasty for the best view of Yangtze River and Jialing River. Eling Park leans against Mountain City (Chongqing Municipality also called Mountain City) and face to Yangtze River and Jialing River with a magnificent natural scenic spot of grandness risk and grace. Tourists can enjot the wonderful night view at here the highest of Chongqing peninsula.

Eling Park – History

Eling Park was built as a villa of Li Yaoting the first rich chairman the chamber of commerce of Chongqing Municipality during late Qing Dynasty, thus it is also called "Li Garden" and "Yi Garden", the characters of Li and Yi meant ritual and appropriate. Eling Park is the earliest private garden of Chongqing Municipality. There is an inscription carved on stele by Li Yaoting's friend.

During the period of Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek lived in "Flying Pavilion" of Li Garden with Mrs Chiang as well as the British ambassador Karl. The Australian embassy was constructed in the garden too.

In March 1958, Li Garden was distributed for Chongqing Municipality with the support of Deng Xiaoping (the leader of the People's Republic of China before) and named as "Eling Park" by Chongqing Government in 1958 with the renovation of Eling Park.

Eling Park – Attraction

There are some attractions like "Rope Bridge", "the Tiger Stage", "Viewing Stage", "Bonsai Garden" and other cultural landscape in Eling Park. Eling Park is the best place to choose to have an overlook or night view of Chongqing Mountain City.

In January 2008, Eling Park merged with Fo Tuguan Park. Eling Park covers an area of more than 400 mu (almost 266,666 square meters) and consists of Fo Tuguan Garden and Eling Garden. The construction style of ancient pass Fo Tuguan and the private garden Eling garden impressed tourists with its magnificent and precipitous, delicate and pretty, which is the typical style of art of Chongqing Garden.
