Tourist Attractions of Chongqing Pianyan Ancient Town - Overview

The buildings in Pianyan Ancient Town were constructed for the philosophical thinking of "Harmony". The buildings' layout emerges Taoist of "Tai Ji" which divided into two parts of "Yin" and "Yang". In Pianyan Ancient Town, you can find ordinary house, courtyard, street, exit and entrance, etiquette center and cultural center, which are distributed strictly; many kinds of shops like folkloric house, unique shops, academics, temples and the theatrical stages, all of which are designed combining magnificence with simplicity.

Wumiao Temple

Wumiao Temple located at the east entrance of Pianyan Ancient Town which covers an area of more than 400 square meters of the main hall. It constructed in Qing Dynasty reign of Qianlong of a magnificent and picturresque style. In the center of the main hall, there is a statue of Guanyu dressing in armor with over 3.3 meters high. The statues of Guanping and Zhoucang are standing respectively on two sides. on the left a statue of Zhangfei is standing with a strict face, dressing in armor too. On the right, there is a statue of Yangji riding back on the dragon with a fierce posture. (Guanyu and Zhangfei were the great generals in eastern Han Dynasty, called "brothers" with Liubei together. Guanping and Zhoucang were the subordinates of Guanyu. Yangji was one of immortals in Chinese ancient history)

Lingguan Temple

Lingguan Temple situated at the front of the Wumiao Temple as tall as Wumiao Temple and divided in six floors. Linggong Temple named from the Lingguan Bodhisattva of over 3.3 meters high inside. The Bodhisattva is covered by gold with a atrocious face. There are little libraries on two sides opposite to the theatrical stages.

Jiutai Inn

Jiutai Inn divided into three floors. The first floor is capacious and a beautiful ladder in the center toward to the second floor. When step to the second floor, you can go straight to the third pavilion by the staircases on two sides. The windows and handrails are decorated by wood carving which are beautiful and exquisite

Little Library and Theatrical Stage

Little Library and Theatrical Stage were constructed in the same time with Wumiao Temple.

Little Library divided into two floors. The upstairs was usually used for the celebrities and politicians, drinking tea or enjoying the dramas. The downstairs was usually for ordinary people.

The Theatrical Stage also called "the Stage of Ten Thousand of Years" and divided into two floors too. Of course the upstairs was performing the dramas and downstairs was used for making-up, clothes exchange.

Yuwang Temple

At the center of the main hall of Yuwang Temple, there is a statue of Yuwang who was a leader of an ancient tribe of over 5000 years ago. There are dozens of holy statues on two sides, all of which are the immortals of The Legend of Deification.

Ancient Ficus Virens

The Ficus Virens is a kind of Chinese tree, and also is a symbol tree of Chongqing Municipality. The Ficus Virens is famous as its denseness, thickness and old age.

There are large numbers of Ancient Ficus Virens in Pianyan Ancient Town, which mostly over the age of 200 years. A tree of over 500 years old is standing at the entrance of Pianyan Ancient Town which could be embraced by four people.

Heishuitan River

Heishuitan River means black river in English. Heishuitan River originates from the south slope of Huayun Mountain (located at Sichuan Province). It flows through the town of 9 kilometers, from north to south. Heishuitan River named from the little coals in the water that from the upstream. Little coals and gravel mix together make the river a little black.

Smithy

There is an ancient smithy in the town. The master of the shop inherits the traditional ironwork technology after generations. The man is responsible for the burnishing and the woman holds the sledge. While working, the sound of ironwork attracts many tourists coming.

Waterwheel

Waterwheel is made of bamboo and worked by the power of water. The Waterwheel twirls by water, which is a traditional way of irrigation.
