A New Brilliant Pearl on Three Gorges

Wanzhou city, the biggest migratory city of Chongqing Municipality, 1/3 of city area was submerged as the project of Three Gorges Dam with lack of social function and recession economy during that period of time. But Wanzhou city is becoming “a brilliant pearl on the three gorges” of northeast of Chongqing Municipality now after a hardship of reconstruction.

There was ninety percent of industry closed without any productivity benefit and mass of social contradictions such as increasing unemployment rate during the process of migration. But now Wanzhou City runs more than 40 of new technology industries with a hundred million output value and high GDP rate. People here are building their new house and creating a better life. Many tourists are atrracted to visit Wanzhou City after completion of Three Gorges Dam Projection. The average growth of 21.8% of annual economic of Wanzhou City, which takes the No .1 of Chongqing Municipality for two years.

Date back to 8 years ago, 263,000 of people, 1/5 of total migration numbers, left heir hometown. With the advance of Three Gorges Dam Project, large numbers of thousand-year ancient town and villages sank into the river forever and the busiest downtown of Wanzhou city was also removed, which made the social economy decreasing.

In March 2010, member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Bo Xilai, Mayor Huang Qifan mentioned that Wanzhou City have to be the second large with urban area of 80 square meters and over 1 million people of urban population, of Chongqing Municipality of "Pearl on the Three Gorges" as soon as possible. By 2020, Wanzhou City will reach a higher comprehensive economy with over urban area of 120 square meters and urban population of 120 square meters.

According to statistics, 5 billion RMB have been invested to improve the traffic condition and at the same time the project of "eight expressways, eight railways, an airport and a transportation port"" is in operation for a year. Another investment of nearly 2 billion RMB has been used to construct science museum, culture and art center, exhibition center and stadium etc. On the other hand, area of 3300 arces around busiest Binjiang Road has been constructed for park, the green space and public facilities, giving up the development of commercial real estate. And there are increasing positions for workers still now.

The reason and purpose of economic development is up to common rich. Wanzhou City government decided to invest 200 hundred of million or more for construction of Public Rental Housing, small industry, Chongqing travel investment and income of farmers in 2012.
