Yangtze River History - Origin

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia which length of 6397 kilometers. The Yangtze River originates from the southwest of the main peak of the Tibetan plateau mountain, which called Geladangdong Snow Mountain. The glaciers feed the Yangtze River and Yellow River, which irrigate crops along their banks. The main stream of Yangtze River flows through the Tibet prefecture, Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai City, and flow into the East China Sea at Chongming isle (belongs to Shanghai City). The main stream is more than 6300 kilometers which ranks third in the world. It covers more than 180 square kilometers which accounts for 1/5 of the national area. Yangtze River History - Geography

The main stream of Yangtze River has many branches and water-rich, even no frozen around year. It divided upstream (from headwater to Yichang City), midstream (from Yichang to Hukou City) and downstream.

Upstream: It is 4529 kilometers which accounts for 72percent of Yangtze River. It covers 1,000,006 square kilometers which accounts for 55.6 percent of Yangtze River. The famous tiger leaping gorge, 4529 km long, the narrowest point only 30 meters, is a canyon on the Yangtze River. The terrain here forms the famous Three Gorges (Qutang gorge, Wu gorge, Xiling Gorge) which length around 200 km.

Midstream: It's widening water, slow moving river and winding river when you down from Yichang City and go into the Middle-lower Yangtze River. The midstream is 927 km which accounts for 14.7percent. It covers 679,000 square kilometers which covers 37.6 percent.

Downstream: The down stream length of 844 km which accounts for 13.3 percent. It covers 123,000 square kilometers which accounts for 6.8 percent. As it flows through Yangzijin and Yangzi country, our foreign visitor call it Yangtze River.

Chinese Alligator: The Chinese alligator is one of two species of alligator. It is thought that there are just 150 Chinese alligators left in the wild. It is an endangered animal and it is protected by both Chinese and international law. The habitat where it lives is also protected.

Chinese Sturgeon: The Chinese Sturgeon is thought to have lived at the same time as dinosaurs, dating back to a period 140 million years ago. Because of that, it is sometimes also known as a living fossil. It is an animal strictly protected by the Chinese government, named a "national treasure".
