Shannan Prefecture is the birthplace of Tibetan culture. It is located on the southern bank of the middle reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River and is about 3600 meters above the sea level. It enjoys a temperate climate.

It takes about three hours by bus from Lhasa to Zetang. The shuttle buses leave Lhasa for Zetang in the morning every day. The main transport means in the city are motor tricycles.
