Golden Knife Gorge

Brief Introduction

Golden Knife Gorge is located at the southwest of karst landform, Golden Knife Gorge town, Beibei District, Chongqing. It is at the altitude of 880 meters, and 90 kilometers from the civic center. Golden Knife Gorge is a natural scenic spot with antiquity, magic and magnificence. The forests there are elegant, rocks are rare and the water is clear. The whole gorge is 6.2 kilometers long, making up of 2 sects, the upper of which is influenced by the karst geological process, and the ground is cut intensely. So Golden Knife Gorge owns special gorge and gully, and the perpendicular height of the cliff is more than one hundred meters. The old vine is hanged upside down and the running water murmurs. The lower sect is influenced by the normal erosion, forming many pools and waterfalls. The stalactite, stalagmite and stalagnate are in thousands of postures and changing all the time. Jinghun Platform

After entering into the gate, with another 5-minute-walk, you may see a platform, with a length of 5 meters and a width of 3 meters. Standing on the platform, looking down the cliff, you may feel horrifying, and if you have acrophobia, you mustn't get on the platform. It is said that in the war of liberation, the old lady with two pistols dispatched more than 10 ten of her army to rescue the arrested communists, but they failed. And they are besiege by the enemy there, being run out of ammunition and food supplies, they jumped down the cliff hand in hand, giving up their life heroically, which made the enemy frightened out of their wits, hence the name Jinghun Platform.

The Bath of Eagle

At the entrance of the upper sect of Golden Knife Gorge, on the right side, the cliff is lofty and grand, looking like a giant olecranon hanging in the sky, and the clear water flows through the olecranon and falls down, which makes the narrows cool and moist, strongly fortified, also known as the eagle gorge. the talons of the eagle also looks like a small goshawk head looking down the clear pool, making the eagle gorge more miraculous and magnificent.

The Flying Waterfall

On the right cliff, a silver white waterfall drops from the cloud along with the grand lie of the mountain. The waterfall is 150 meters high and 10 meters wide. Next to the waterfall, there is a square stone cavern, with no investigation of when and who cut it. A local old man said that there used to be a Taoist priest tried to make pills of immortality and cultivate vital energy for years, finally he became an immortal, rode the rainbow and disappeared. In the drought time, the flying waterfall drifts between the earth and sky, the water flies with the cool breeze, just like the fairy maiden dispersing flowers.

The Hiding Knife Cave

Speaking of Golden Knife Gorge, what is golden knife, and where is the knife? All the questions may arouse the imagination of people. When you get to the cave of hiding knife, you may find that it is encircled with green shades and lvly sceneries. It is said that the cave is where the general of Xia, Zhang Kun, got the Golden knife. The stalactite in the cave is peculiar, and one of them looks like an empty sheath pricking into the cliff, though the golden knife is not here, the sheath is left in the cave. In fact, the cave is a natural bridge of the golden knife gorge. The two sides of the cave are cliffs and precipices, with a height of more than 5 0meters and width of 10 meters, the narrower is 7 to 8 meters, and length of 45 meters. The geology is special, being a cave formed as a result of the crust movement. The cave is under the influence of carbon dioxide water, and finally formed the hiding knife cave.
