Midui glacier is at the upstream of Midui River, which is the second grade tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River and flows into parlung zangbo from the southern bank. Midui Glacier - The Location

Midui Glacier is located in Yupu towmship, Bomi County and 90 kilometers away from Zhamu Town. It is at the combining site of Nyainqntanglha Mountains and Boshulalling, which is the biggest distribution area of the monsoon oceanic glaciers. The main peak of Midui Glacier is 6800 meters above sea level, the snowline is 4600 meters and the end is only 2400 meters above sea level. Midui Glacier is formed as a resulted of the confluence of icy falls, each of which is more than 800 meters high and 1000 meters wide and between which there are original forests. The lower part of the glacier has gone through the mixed forest of needle and broad leaves.

Midui Glacier - The Features

Midui Glacier is shines with the snow light all year around, besides, the scenery there is miraculous and fascinating. The headstream of Midui Glacier is on a snow mountain at the altitude of 6000 meters, on which there are two giant icy basins in the shape of arm-chair. The three sides of the icy basin are covered with snow, which can collapse anytime. At times, in several hours, you may see the snow slide three times. The frequent snow slide is the main supply of the glacier. When the ice and snow is two much in the icy basin, it will flow out in the form of giant icy fall into the Midui River. The icy fall is 800 meters high, which is so peculiar, splendid and rare. Seeing this sight, you are sure to can't help praising the aeration of nature.

Midui Glacier - Tips

Midui village is situated between the Ranwu Township and Bomi County. Though Midui belongs to Bomi County, it is much nearer to get there from Ranwu Township than Bomi County. There is no sign at the cross of Sichaun-Tibet Highway and the way to Midui, but the cross is between the No.1 Midui opencut tunnel and No.2 Midui opencut tunnel, so it is easy to find the way. There are buses going to Ranwu Township from Chengdu, Changdu and Nyingchi. In the township, there are youth hotels, and you only need to pay 20 Yuan per bed. If you drive a off-road vechile, you may get to Midui village directly. If you walk there, it will take you two hours and you may get back to accommodate in Ranwu Township the same day. In the village, you may find some villagers to show you the way there. If they help you with the luggage, you had better pay them 20 Yuan. If you do there on golden weeks, you should pay 15 Yuan to the villagers.
