Ranwu Lake is located in Ranwu County, which is at the southwestern part of Baxoi County of qamdo and 90 kilometers away from baimazhen. The area of the lake is 22 square kilometers and the level of the lake is at the altitude of 3850 meters. Some people say that the Ranwu Lake means the lake filled with corpses. It is said that there was a buffalo in the lake, and an ax at the bank, the two cattle measured their strength with their horns. After the death of the two cattle, they were changed into big mountains, the place between which is the Ranwu Lake. At the southwestern part of Ranwu Lake, there is the Gangrigabu snow mountain, at the southern part, there is the Azhagongla glacier and at the northeastern part, there is the Boshulalaing. The glacier melt of the around snow mountains is the feeding of the Ranwu Lake, in addition, this allows for the pouring out of the lake water to form one of the upper reaches of parlung zangbo, which is also the tributary of the famous Yarlung Zangbo River. The formation of the lake is resulted from the landslide and mud-rock flow, which lead to the block up of the river, and formed the barrier lake. Ranwu Lake is located at the place where the Himalayas,Nyainqntanglha Mountains and Hengduan Mountains clashed. The quietness and blue of Ranwu Lake is known to all. There are no sundries or stick in the lake, and the sceneries around the lake are quite different from each other. It is colorful of Ranwu Lake to be with glass, forest, leaves white waterfowl and multicolored scree, which is as pure and fresh as the reflection of the mirror. As we all know the water of the lake can flow out, and the water supply of the lake is from the rainfall and the melt of the Snow Mountains around, so the salinity of the lake is low, with only 0.3 gram per litre. That's to say, Ranwu Lake is a freshwater lake with low water temperature. In summer, the temperature is between 6.6 and 15.4 degree Celsius, and in winter, the lake gets frozen. Ranwu Lake abounds in the production of fish with no scale, and the succulent of this kind of fish is tender. In some small luncheonettes, you may have a good taste of the delicacy of the fish.

The Tourist Resources of Ranwu Lake

Ranwu Lake is at a length of 26 kilometers and a width of 1 to 5 kilometers. At the northern side of Ranwu Lake, there is the Lagu glacier, which extends to the lake. Whenever the snow melts, the snow water flows into the lake, which enriches the source of water of Ranwu Lake. At the lakeside, there are green glasses and crops, at the waist of the mountains, there are dark forests, and colorful azalea and frutex jungle at the upper side. At the top of the mountain, there is the lap over snow never melts all years around. In the summer, all the sceneries mentioned above display their beauties, making you feel as if you are in a beautiful picture. But the legend of the lake is more attractive. It is said that long long ago, there was a mountain between kaewsan atibodhi and Ranwu, in which there were many apes and monkeys of great abilities of imitation. Whatever they saw people did, they would imitate and destroy what they saw, which put the people's life in disorder. What's more, the monkeys were good at fighting, so people found it very hard to prevent the monkeys' destruction, and they felt very troubled. At last, one of them came up with an idea, that was to gather all the men of the village to make green wine and some wood-made knives and swords. Then they went to drink wine on the mountain, dueled with each other with the knives and swords and pretended to be killed dead. Then the men came back to the village and left some wine and veritable knives and swords on the mountain. At night, the monkeys began their imitation, at first, they drank wine and then fighted with each other. At last, only one was alive, and the monkey was in despair to find his accompanies dead, so he bumped the cliff and took the suicide. People named the mountain as monkey bumps the cliff mountain. The natural scenery and magic legend make Ranwu Lake poetry.

The Cause of the Formation of Ranwu Lake

Ranwu Lake is not just a lake with the shape of ellipse, but very long and narrow, especially when the water is dry, the width of some part of the lake is no more than 1 kilometer. The lake is not a full one, and it can be classified into 3 sects, the upper, the middle and the lower. The part between each sect is farmland and villages, which is linked by small rivers. Ranwu Lake is a barrier lake as a result of the landslide. In the past, it was the river course of parlung zangbo, the main tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River. About 200 years ago, a corner of one of the mountains around the river got collapsed, and much spall blocked up the river course. So the water can not flow downstream and stored at the valley, submerging the beautiful forest at the bank. The water level raised unceasingly, till one day, the water breaked through the obstruction of the rocks, formed a water channel, kept on flowing into the parlung zangbo, flew into Yarlung Zangbo River and into the Indian Ocean at last.
