Brief Introduction of Xarsingma Town

Xarsingma Town is the location of Yadong Government, and Yadong used to be the name of a small village near Xarsingma. Yadong is a frontier town, north to Gyantse, south to Sikkim and Bhutan, and the boundary line is close to India, Nepali and Bangladesh. Starting from Xarsingma, 6 meters north is the frontier town, Xiayadong. At Xiayadong, in the west, you may get to the capital of Sikkim, Gantok, in the north, you may get to Bhutan. Along the Yadong River, you may get to the famous Chunpi River course. Xarsingma has been the distribution center of goods between Tibet and the countries of South Asia. In 1888, Xarsingma was changed to commercial port, and Qing government set the Yadong custom here, leading to the prosperous of the border trade. In the past, all the foreign goods needed by the Tibetan noble were imported there. The climate of Xarsingma is humid. The forest coverage rate is high, with lush vegetation, mostly are economic forest and medicinal plants. 40 kilometers away from Xarsingma, it is the ever highest mountain, Parry. All the architectures here of Tibetan people are pine loft, which are encompassed with railings. All the walls, handrails and eaves are decorated with patterns of Tibetan customs, beautiful color, quite different from the styles of other Tibetans.

Culture of Xarsingma

The street of Xarsingma is in the world of wood culture. Actually, there is only one street, and the wooden buildings of both sides are decorated with carved paintings, all of which are so exquisite that you may think they are in the competition of contending for beauty. At the upstairs, there are balconies with railings caved with flowers, which may remind you of the opera tower of old Beijing and the tea house of Sichuan. In the past, all the businessmen were only passengers, and the local people rent out the shops to exploit the market. Nowadays, the businessmen are still mainly outlanders. The town is with only several thousand people, but the dancing halls, hair salons and fashion shops are inevitable. When free, though with nothing to buy, people would still wander about the street.

Tourist Attractions of Xarsingma

At Xarsingma, there is a Dongga Temple, with a history of more than 500years, belongs to the Gelug. In the July of 1951, the representative of the central authorities, General Zhang Jing Wu, got to Dongga Temple purposely, and he brought with him the letters from Chairman Mao, as well as the copy of the 17 agreements, to Dalai Lama. We may see that this laid the foundation for the implementation of the 17 agreements. What's more, since then, the Dongga Temple became famous. 30 kilometers north from Xarsingma, there is the famous Kangbu Spring. On the way there, there is a Gaju Temple, in which the plaque nominated by Sheng Tai, one of the ministers dispatched to Tibet, is well-kept. Nearby the temple, you may see the relics of batteries built in the Qing Dynasty.
