Dazu Bamboo Weaving

Dazu Bamboo Weaving has a long history, it is known as the "Hometown of Bamboo Weaving" because of its various bamboo weaving styles, patterns and delicate weaving skills. Dazu has abundant bamboo sources. In 1643, during the Chong Zhen Period of Ming Dyansty, the bamboo product was widely used by people. After Xian Feng Period of Qing Dyansty, the bamboo product of Dazu had gradually been sold in Yuanan, Guizhou, Hunan and Guangdong Province. Since the People's Republic of China established, Dazu Bamboo Weaving had a big progress. In 1950, the whole county commercial department has purchased 400, 000 bamboo mats and increased to 2.59 million in 1978. Because of the 11th Central Commitee, the market policy had been loosen and the single national commercial department became the multichannel distribution management. The purchase sum of civil management exceeded the national commercial. In 1991, the output of the bamboo mat reached 4 million.

Sanqu and Tieshan Town are the most productive town of bamboo mat, almost everyone of the town can weave the bamboo mat. The output of bamboo mat of Sanqu and Tieshan Town took over 60% to 70 % of the whole county production. The distribution areas have been increased to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Shannxi, Anhui, Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia.

The common bamboo products of Dazu County, despite of the green mat, yellow mat, there are bast mat, pillow mat, bamboo basket, bamboo bag, bamboo curtain, bamboo dust-pan, bamboo pot cover, bamboo brush etc. In 1959, the bamboo weaving experts Li Zhuyin and Wu Chengzhou won the merit award issued by Sichuan Province because their wonderful and exquisite bamboo weaving works.

In recent years, with the development of tourism, the production and sales continued to increase. The bamboo weaving products keep on innovating, such as: the new color, clear and elegant flower pattern. Because of its lightness and foldable character it is warmly welcomed by the visitors. Some products have been sent to the exhibition fair or bought by the tourists both at home and abroad, that shows the great prospect of Dazu Bamboo Weaving Industry.
