Dragon Boat Race

In Chongqing, the traditional Chinese festivals are the same with the rest of China. Such as: the New Year Festival, Lantern Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Tomb-sweeping Day. But Chongqing has five Tujia and Miao autonomous county, they have their own unique traditional festivals.

Dragon Boat Festival

March to May in lunar calendar

Dragon Boat Festival has two parts: the mini and large Dragon Boat Festival. May 5th is the mini Dragon Boat Festival. May 15th is the large Dragon Boat Festival. At that time, the most hilarious places are Wulong, Changshou, Rongchang and others districts or counties. Autumn Catching Festival

The annual "Autumn Catching" festival, is a traditional singing festival of Miao people. On the day of the festival, Miao people put on their holiday suits rush to the field singing, dancing, playing dragon dancing and swinging, the atmosphere is exciting and bustling. Besides, girls and boys can divulge their true feelings.

Time: Ever year in one of the three days---- August 7th, 8th, 9th.

Place: The Three Gorges Square (the center of Shapingba District of Chongqing)

Spring Festival Eve

Tujia people usually celebrate the Spring Festival one or two days earlier than the Han people which already have 200 years history. It is said that during the Jia Jing period of Ming Dynasty, the ancient Tujia people were ready to celebrate the Spring Festival, but at that time, the emperor issued a decree to send the Tujia soldiers to Jiangsu-Zhejiang area to resist the Japanese pirates. In order to excite the Tujia soldiers, so the prestigious elders of Tujia group temporarily decided to have celebration ahead of the Spring Festival. Later, Tujia group keeps this tradition to commemorate their soldiers heroic exploits.
