Long, long ago, a devil dragon break the shackles of netherworld, and went to Xiawudun Dam with his offspring plunging the people into depths of suffering, trampling crops.

Buyi people who lived here felt deeply grieved but they could not defeat the dragon, so they had to meet the requirement of the dragon-----sent him one pair of boy and girl each year. The kindhearted people stunned. The dragon turned its huge body to fell into the hole, tightly blocked river. Suddenly, the plain turned into an ocean. People were struggling to escape the flood, some of the survivors fled at the top of the mountain, but most of them were eaten by the dragon.

They burned the incense, candle and ghost money to pray to the heaven. Weaving Fairy was moved by people's sincerity and she determined to descend to the world to save the suffering people. So the Jade Emperor drew up a law: "Weaving Fairy must return to the heaven before the cock crow three times, if she disobeys she will never enter the heaven and stay in the lower bound forever as a stone". Weaving Fairy accepted the law, farewell to her sisters and took the appointment, then descend to the world.

When the Weaving Fairy came to the mountain top, suddenly the ferocious dragon shot her with the poisoned arrows from the mouth. Weaving Fairy fought agaist the dragon with the golden shuttles. Seeing this situation, the people light up the bonfire and beated drums to cheer for the Weaving Fairy. While the dragon disoriented and confused by the sudden sound and fire, the Weaving Fairy took this opportunity to throw her golden shuttles to the dragon. The dragon was hurt by the shuttles and he escaped with the pain. At this moment, Weaving Fairy summoned her underwater subordinates to intercept the dragon, and the fairy shot 72 golden shuttles which let the dragon body covered with cuts and bruises.

At this point, the cock crowed the second time, the Spirits urged the Weaving Fairy back to the heaven, but she determined to root out the scourge, so she indifferent to the law of the heaven, seized the dragon tail, threw it into the mountain and killed the dragon by the golden shuttle.

But at this time the cock crowed the last time, and the gate of heaven tightly shut. Because missed the time to back to the heaven, Weaving Fairy could not move, turned into a stone statue gradually, remaining in the world forever.

This vivid stone statue is located in the south of the Xiawutun Dam. On July 7 lunar calendar every year, the magpies fly here in droves and forms the Magpie Bridge. In the silent mid night, we can even hear the whisper from the Weaving Fairy and her lover Cowherd.
