Treasures of Potala Palace – Kwan-yin Hall

Among the majestic 1,000 rooms in Potala Palace, the most outstanding one is the small and low Kwan-yin Hall (Dianjia Zhupu in Tibetan). It was the only extant room built in the 7th century. It is said that this Kwan-yin Hall was the room where Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng got married. A statue of Princess Wencheng was treasured up in the hall. Although it is only more than 33.33 centimeters tall, it is really beautiful. In addition, this Kwan-yin Hall is the oldest room, thus the statue of Princess Wencheng is extraordinarily precious.

Treasures of Potala Palace – Stupas

Stupas in the Potala Palace are the most glorious place with the most disciples worshipping. Among them, the biggest one is the stupa of the fifth Dalai-Lobsang Gyatso. The stupa is five-storey high and is covered with gold foils, in the shape like the white tower in Beihai Park in Beijing.

According to the experts, when building this stupa, more than 110,000 liang (1 liang=50 grams) and over 15,000 diamonds, pearls, jades and corals were inlayed in it. Apart from the body of the fifth Dalai, countless sandalwood, silk fabrics, jades and valuable scriptures are also collected here.

Treasures of Potala Palace – Buddha Statues

Potala Palace is actually a world of Buddha. Countless Buddha statues are in different sizes and various shapes. Statue of Sakyamuni of Sui and Tang Dyansties are kept in the palace. Besides, a plenty of Buddha statues and Buddhist masters' statues are also made of gold, silver, copper, jade and clay.

Treasures of Potala Palace – Scriptures

A large number of scriptures are also collected in Potala Palace. Its Palm-Leave Scripture has been forever lost in India. The Tibetan tripitaka-Kanjur in Potala Palace was written by golden powders and several kinds of gold, silver, diamonds and pearls. Some historical cultural relics reflecting the relationships of Han and Zang are also treasured up in the Potala Palace, such as the golden sea, golden imperial edicts and jade-made imperial edicts conferred to Dalai by emperors in Qing Dynasty.
