A Brief Introduction to Tiankengdifeng

Tiankengdifeng lies in the Xiaozhai Village of Jingzhu Town in Fengjie County of Chongqing. It is composed with Tiankeng (karst doline) and Difeng (a geosuture). The largest diameter of the doline's mouth is 626 meters while the smallest diameter is 537 meters. The largest diameter in its bottom is 522 meters. The vertical height is 666.2 meters with a total volume of 119,348,000 square meters. The karst doline in Tiankengdifeng is the deepest karst doline in the world with the largest volume.

Attractions of Tiankengdifeng

There are steep precipices in the Tiankengdifeng and it seems that they are cut by axes or knives, which are quite magnificent. There are countless unfathomable caves and a turbulent underground river in the dolines. A lot of Chinese and foreign explorers have been into the Tiankengdifeng many times to explore for the mysteries here.

Tiankeng

In fact, Tiankeng is the short for Xiaozhai Tiankeng (doline). Xiaozhai Tiankeng, or Xiaozhai Doline is the biggest doline in the world. It is about 1,331 meters high in the mouth and is 666.2 meters deep. The diameter of its mouth is 622 meters and that of its bottom is 522 meters. There are two platforms on the precipice of the doline. The first platform is on the depth of 300 meters and is 2 to 10 meters wide. On the first platform stand two houses in which there were once some people living. The other platform is on the depth of 400 meters in the shape like a slope. On the slope grows lush grasses and trees dotted with wild flowers. Several suspended springs flow downwards into the bottom of the doline. The underground rivers in the bottom of the doline flow out of the dozens of meters of doline through the broken precipice, forming a picturesque labyrinth river.

Difeng

Difeng is a natural crevice. The Difeng in Fengjie County is actually the Tianjing Gorge crevice. It is 10 to 30 meters wide on the upper part while is only 1 to 30 meters wide in the bottom of the valley. The deepest place is 300 meters deep, forming a landscape of Yixiantian (one line sky). Meanwhile, there are clear and green streams flowing in the steep mountains with primitive meadows and luxurious forests, thus forming another fairyland on earth. Besides, here is a perfect place for getting rid of summer heat and for enjoying the snowy scenery.
