Tianjing Gorge

A Brief Introduction to Tianjing Gorge

Tianjing Gorge is located in the Xinglong district, 91 kilometers away from Fengjie County. It is a natural crevice on ground with a total length of 37 kilometers. It was discovered in August 1994 by a British cave explorer.

Attractions of Tianjing Gorge

Tianjing Gorge is composed of the wide valley in the upper reaches, the gorge and the natural crevice in the middle reaches, and the underground rivers in the lower reaches. It is in the shape of the letter "V" and its turning is the entrance to of the natural crevice. There are many unique landscapes and many rarely seen animals and plants here in the Tianjing Gorge.

The 14 kilometers long natural crevice, which is called Difeng in Chinese, of Tianjing Gorge is divided into two sections-the upper section and the lower section. The upper section, from the Elephant Mountain of Xinglongchang to the Chigucao, is about 8 kilometers long and is underground crevice. There are some ponors on the bottom of the crevice. The lower section, from the Xiaozhai Doline to the Labyrinth Gorge, is about 6 kilometers long.
