A Brief Introduction to King Cypress Garden

The King cypress Garden is located in Bajie County of Nyingchi area. These cypresses in an number of about one hundred, grow in the river valley in the lower reaches of Brahmaputra River and Niyang River on the elevation of about 3,000 meters and 3,400 meters. These cypresses are thousands of years old and are the unique species in Tibet.

Attractions in King Cypress Garden

There are about one hundred cypress trees in the King Cypress Garden. They are distributed intensively and all in good condition. The average height of the ancient cypresses is 44 meters with the average diameter of 158 centimeters.

Among these cypresses is an oldest cypress. It is more than 50 meters high with the diameter of almost 6 meters, and with a projected crown area of about 666.67 square meters. More than a dozen adults can not even encircle it. According to the measurement, this cypress has been 2,000 to 2,500 years and thus is regarded as the holy tree in the local area. It is said that this cypress is the life tree of Sinraomiqiho, the founder of the Bon Religion. As a result, this cypress, as the oldest and largest cypress in the garden, is always with Hatha (a piece of white silk used as a greeting gift in Tibet). Besides, there are many Mani stones piling up in the garden. With that, numerous Buddhist disciples came here to pilgrim.

On the terraces around the Yigong River valley and the Yigong Lake lies the highest tea plantation in the world with the elevation ranging from 1,900 meters to 2,300 meters and with an annual average temperature of 11.4℃.

Best Time for King Cypress Garden

Influenced by the combined impact of different climates such as the sub-tropical climate and the sub-nival climate, different places in the King Cypress Garden have different climates. In general, the best time for the King Cypress Garden is from April to October, when the temperature in this area is averagely temperate and wild, thus suitable for visiting.
