Pahgar Monastery is located in the Niangpu Village in Gongbujiangda County of Shigatse prefecture, with an elevation of 5,000 meters. It was built in the period of the fifth Dalai Lama and belongs to the Gelugpa sect (also the yellow sect) of Tibetan Buddhism. Phagar Monastery was originally governed by Ganden Monastery. There are altogether more than 1,000 statues inside the Pahgar Monastery with nearly 100 monks.
It is said that there are two stupas in the Pahgar Monastery, in one of which collects the clothes of the first Master Tsongkapa of Ganden Monastery.
The Pahgar Mountain behind the Pahgar Monastery is quite famous in the Gongbu area of Shigatse prefecture. The mountain looks like the Goddess Duojipamu. The Navel Cave of Goddess Guojipamu on the halfway of Pahgar Mountain is said to be very efficacious, thus is called Holy Cave. Two Mani Dui are piled up at the entrance of the cave. The Navel Cave is deep with big holes and small holes connecting each other. There are skylights on the ceilings of the cave. Various patterns and unknown words are engraved on the walls of the cave.
Under the Navel Cave are a water tunnel and a geyser. The geyser never dries up all the year around. Each day, water comes out of the geyser 6 times with an interval of 4 hours. The geyser is called Pahgar Spring.
On the mountain slope under the Pahgar Monastery locates a celestial burial ground which is quite famous. It is said that there are three lakes respectively in the colors of blue, green and white, with areas of 100 mu, 50 mu and 3 mu (1 mu=666.67 square meters). The three lakes are called sister lakes with different advantages, adding a lot of radiance and beauty to the sceneries of Pahgar Monastery.
