A Brief Introduction to Qinglong Lake

Qinglong Lake is located on the Yunwu Mountain, 29 kilometers northwest of Bishan County. It is on the elevation of 400 to 800 meters. Qinglong Lake scenic area occupies a total area of more than 50 square kilometers with a lake area of 15 hectares. Scenic area of Qinglong Lake is always cloudy with small seasonal temperature difference. Summer here is short while spring here is long. With clear water, roaring waterfalls and luxurious vegetations on the lakeshore, the landscapes in Qinglong Lake scenic area are quite charming.

Origin of Qinglong Lake's Name

As for the origin of name of Qinglong Lake, it is because of its shape. In Chinese, "Qinglong" means a dark green dragon. The lake is winding, twisting and meandering. It is just like a dragon. Besides, with the lush vegetations on the mountains, the lake takes on a look of dark green. Thus it is called Qinglong Lake.

Attractions of Qinglong Lake

Qinglong Lake scenic area was listed as the city-level scenic area by Chongqing municipality in 2000. In 2001, it was listed as the nation-grade forest park. Centered by the village forts of Song Dynasty, there are altogether 12 main landscapes and 72 small scenic spots in Qinglong Lake scenic area. Mountains and water in Qinglong Lake scenic area add radiance and beauty to each other. With beautiful sceneries, Qinglong Lake scenic area is like a miniascape garden in the mountain. It has become a perfect resort for leisure, appreciation, recreation.

Tiewei Village

It is said that in the February of 1259, Mongol Great Khan led the Mongolian troops of ten thousand people to the Fishing City in Hechuan District. He failed to occupy the city and thus sent a force to attack Chongqing at first and then attack the Fishing City. When they passed here, the mountains here were quite steep and thus it was difficult to conquer. The Mongolian troops finally were defeated. To memorize this mountain village, people called it Tiewei Village (In Chinese, "Tiewei" means irony fort, meaning this village is as solid as iron). Tiewei Village arouses you the great battle scenes. There is a platform beside the village, where you can watch the sunrise in the morning and enjoy the sunset glows in the dusk..

Ancient Village

There is an old village 3 kilometers northwest of Qinglong Lake. It was built in the southern Song Dynasty as the base of the then troops and was called Ancient Village. Today, it has become a perfect place for appreciating beautiful and secluded sceneries with village foundations, stone inscriptions and high and thick walls made of stone slabs remained.

On the cliff outside the west gate, a stone statue of Laughing Buddha stands, laughing happily and blessing the local people.

There is a huge golden stone on the cliff outside the northern gate. It is in the shape of a jar with a natural lid. It is said that there were once three furious tigers lying on the stony jar, listening to the monks reciting scriptures in the Jintan Temple under the Ancient Village and living with local people in peace.
