A Brief Introduction to Qin Liangyu

Qin Liangyu (1574-1648), born in Zhongzhou of Sichuan (today's Zhong County of Chongqing), was a Han woman. She was about 186 cm tall. Qin Liangyu was a noted national heroine, a female general and militarist in late Mind Dynasty.

Lifetime Stories of Qin Liangyu

Qin Liangyu devoted her over 40 years' whole life to the army and Ming Dynasty. She fought in the majority part of China – in the Great Wall area, the Yangtze River area, the Yellow River area, on Yungui Plateau, in Sichuan Basin and so on. She was the only heroine who was recorded in the official historical books in Chinese history, and also the only female general promoted for her outstanding military achievements. She was also one of the several women versed in both literature and military affairs. She dedicated her whole life to the royal court of Ming Dynasty and made substantial contributions to Ming Dynasty.

Importance of Qin Liangyu

Qin Liangyu got married to Ma Qiancheng, the military commander of Shizhu District who was ordered to lead 3,000 soldiers to suppress a rebeillionin 1559. she led another 500 men, and they fought side by side in battle and suppressed the rebellion quickly. In 1613, Ma Qiancheng offended a court eunuch and was arrested and died in prison. Qin Liangyu was ordered to take her husband's former military office. She became famous for fighting the Qing invaders at the end of the Ming Dynasty in the year of 1620 and crushed numerous rebellions. In 1646, Emperor Longwu of the Southern Ming Dynasty gave Qin Liangyu the title of Loyal Marquis.
