A'peng River Attractions

A'peng River scenic area is a collection of river valleys, hot springs, karst caves, geysers, natural bridges, landforms of big funnels, underground rivers as well as overhanging coffins. It can be expected as a new tourist highlight in the southeast of Chonqing.

Shengui Gorge

Shengui Gorge stands in the best reach of A'peng River, from the Lianghe Town to the estuary in Youyang County. It is 38.9 kilometers long. It obtained its name for the two mountains in the shape of turtles (In Chinese, Shengui means holy turtles). Mountains along the two sides of Shengui Gorge are steep and towering, thus here is uninhabited and is nearly isolated from the outside world. Mountains and water, grasses and trees, all of these take on primitive-styled natural sceneries. Wild animals appear and then disappear from time to time. On the cliffs on Shengui Gorge are several caves whose entrances are in the shape of "T" formed by two dead woods. These caves are called Savage Caves, for that no one knows what animals are living in them. Water in the reach of Shengui Gorge is green like jade. Waterfalls on the both sides of Shengui Gorge flow down turbulently. Mountains, water, stones, stalactites, bamboos and forests, all of these form a picturesque view. An ancient residence-Caoguitang was kept in good condition about 5 kilometers upwards the narrows of Shengui Gorge.

Guandu Gorge

Guandu Gorge lies in the Fengjiaba Town, 22 kilometers away from Qianjiang County. It got its name because of the ancient post roads passed here in the ancient times. Guandu Gorge is 18 kilometers long with steep cliffs and tranquil water, several overhanging coffins and temples. Natural landscapes and human landscapes add radiance and beauty to each other. Cliffs on both sides of the gorge are several hundred zhang high (zhang is a Chinese unit of length, 1 zhang= 3.33 meters), straight up into the sky. Mountains are covered with lush and luxurious ancient cypress and pines, as well as dark green cirrus. Stones on the cliffs are in grotesque shapes, arousing people's imagination and association. Overhang coffins on the precipices, in old and mysterious colors. Temples were built on the halfway of the mountains. There is a refugee relics of ancestors of Miao people-Water Village on the top of the mountain, adding rich mysterious colors to Guandu Gorge.

Xisha River

Xisha River is originated from the ancient forest on the boarder of Chongqing and Hubei Province and flows into A'peng River in Lianghe Town. Xisha River drainage area is the only area with the most complete vegetations in Qianjiang District. Water in Xisha River is crystal clear all the year around with abundant rare amphibious animals. There is a hot spring near the Xisha River with a water-temperature of 50℃. It is the only hot spring in Qianjiang District so far.

Puhua River

Puhua River flows in the Zhaishui Town and finally flows into the A'peng River. In the upper reach of Puhua River, there are two natural bridges with heights of more than 100 meters and two big funnels with diameters of over 80 meters, as well as one underground river with a length of almost 2 kilometers. Boating in the underground river is available. They have not only high value of appreciating but also high value of scientific research. An astonishing geyser can be found in one creek of Puhua River, famous for three regular rises and three regular falls each day, becoming the unique landscape in Puhua River.
