A Brief Introduction to Tanzikou Scenic Area

Tanzikou Scenic Area is located about 6 kilometers east of Heishui Town of Youyang County in Chongqing. It adjoins A'pengjiang Town of Qianjiang District in the north. The gorge is more than 30 kilometers long, narrow outside and wide inside, just like a deep pond. Thus the local people call it "Tanzikou", meaning the mouth of a pond. Tanzikou Scenic Area is a new-found (in the year of 2008) and ecological scenic area with a collection of an ancient village, a hot spring, forests, tranquil water and beautiful gorges.

Attractions of Tanzikou Scenic Area

Terrains of the gorges in Tanziko Scenic Area are rough and rugged. Cliffs here are steep and towering covered with lush primitive trees. Streams mummer in the mountain, which is like a happy song. From time to time, howling of monkeys can be heard in the open valleys and some wild birds can be seen suddenly flying away. Many creeks flow here in the Tanzikou Scenic Area. Water in the streams is so crystal clear that the bottom of them can be seen clearly. Water in the creeks or streams never exhausts.

An Ancient Village in Tanzikou Scenic Area

In the gorge of Tanzikou Scenic Area hides an ancient village with 346 Miao people in 97 households. Well-regulated, the ancient village is quite peaceful and natural. Wooden tile-roofed houses and Diaojiaolou (suspended buildings) stand in good order. With flying corners and overhanging eaves, these buildings are in different shapes. The village is just like a fairyland on earth.

It is said ancestors of these Miao people moved here long long ago to get rid of wars. Since Tanzikou is embraced by mountains and is isolated from the outside world, the majority of the folk customs of Miao people has not been influenced by Han culture, thus keeping the culture of Miao nationality more complete and authentic. The Miao language and Miao folk songs are passed down up to now from generation to generation.

A Holy Hot Spring in Tanzikou Scenic Area

There is also a natural hot spring in Tanzikou Scenic Area with water coming out all the year round. Temperature of the water in the hot spring can reach 70℃. The hot spring is spotted in the Xisha River. A person standing on the hot spring can be held up by the water. According to the local people, the hot spring is abundant in multiple microelements which are helpful for people's health. This hot spring is regarded as "Holy Hot Spring" and endless people come to bathe in it.

A Waterfall in Tanzikou Scenic Area

A waterfall in Tanzikou Scenic Area was discovered in 2008. The waterfall is more than 150 meters high, falling down from a cave on the over 900 meters high mountain. The magnificent sight of the waterfall and the primitive natural landscape add radiance and beauty to each other, becoming a new highlight for the visitors.
