Longshui Lake scenic area lies in west Chongqing-south of Dazu County. It is over 10 kilometers off the Cheng-Yu expressway, 80 kilometers east of Chongqing, 260 kilometers west of Chengdu and 22 kilometers north of Dazu County. Since it is under the foot of West Mountain, it is called "West Lake of Chongqing".
Longshui Lake is actually a medium-sized reservoir which was dug in the 1950s. With a rainwater collection area of 16.5 square meters and a water area of 5,300 mu (1 mu=666.67 square meters), and the total storage capacity of 16.4 million cubic meters water. It is one of birthplace of Laixi River and Xiao'anxi River. Longshui Lake belongs to the sub-tropical moist monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 17.8℃, an annual average sunshine time of about 1314.2 hours and an annual average rainfall of 1,010 mm.
Longshui Lake stretches more than 10 kilometers with 108 small islets of different shapes dotted in the lake, thus forming the unique landscape of mountains overlooking water. Water in the lake is crystal clear with green hills surrounding and reflected in the water. The lake and the hills add radiance and beauty to each other. Forest in West Mountain is verdant green. On the islets, pines and cypresses are dark green with any white cranes, wild ducks, Mandarin ducks and more than 20 types of other birds perching on the islets, taking on a look of natural and vibrant landscape.
You can take part in the thrilling activities of getting through the suspending bridges made of iron chains. There are more than 300 excursion vessels available in the lake. Therefore, the lake has become an ideal place for travels, relaxation and vacations.
The main attraction of Longshui Lake is the Songhe (pines and cranes) Mountain Villa. It was built in 1980 and was renovated in 2010. In Songhe Mountain Villa, you can hear the gurgles of the springs in the evening and smell the freshest air in the morning. It is really an untouched paradise like the Shangri-La in Xianning. Here you can pick and gather the freshest vegetables and fruits by yourself and enjoy the healthiest dishes.
