Attractions of Baisha Ancient Town

Baisha Ancient Town was built in the embrace of mountains and adjoins the Yangtze River and surrounded by streams. Both human sceneries and natural landscapes can be appreciated here. Baisha Ancient Town is composed of four scenic areas-Ancient Town Scenic Area, Luxi River Scenic Area, Heishi Mountain Scenic Area and Gunziping Scenic Area.

Ancient Town Scenic Area

Ancient Town Scenic Area is the traditional scenic area of Baisha Ancient Town. It is situated in the east of Baisha town. Many traditional residences of late Qing Dynasty and early Republican China period, some temples as well as some western-style buildings of two or more floors can all be seen here. Architectures here in the Ancient Town Scenic Area are in different bur harmonious styles. On one hand, they reflect the inclusiveness of migration culture and the fusion of western culture. On the other hand, the architectures are influenced by the local Bayu culture and folk customs. Meanwhile, they also mix the architectural characteristics of northern China's buildings as well as buildings of Anhui Provinces.

Luxi River Scenic Area

Attractions in Luxi River Scenic Area are mainly natural landscapes and there are famous eight scenes of Luxi River-the sight of waterfall dropping, sight of green bamboos embracing water, flowers on the by-lands, sunrise, sunset glows, grotesque peaks, lights on fishing boats in Lvxi River and moonlight over the lotus pond.

There is a Linmu Cave on the rock in Luxi River Scenic Area. It is a charming scene of Bayu and is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangjin District. The unique scene here was praised by Emperor Jianwen in Ming Dynasty as the No.1 fairy mountain of Ming Dynasty.

Heishi Mountain Scenic Area

Heishi Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southern suburb of Baisha Ancient Town. It has been listed in the American Tourist Dictionary published in the U.S. half century ago.

Distinctive natural landscapes and rich human landscapes can be found in Heishi Mountain Scenic Area. On the even field, one peak rises abruptly. Covered with luxurious vegetations, Heishi Mountain looks like a huge green ball. Lvxi River flows around it with deep and tranquil gorge. Many grotesque stones in various shapes, old trees and many precious birds form a beautiful picture. Temples of Ming and Qing Dynasties can also be found in this area. What's more, the largest, best-preserved and the only surviving academy of classical learning in Chongqing-Jukui Academy is here in the Heishi Mountain Scenic Area of Baisha Ancient Town. More than 70 calligraphies, stone inscriptions, poems as well as couplets of celebrities such as Guo Moruo, Feng Yuxiang and so on can be found in this scenic area. Chen Duxiu once lived in Baisha Town and left his former residence-Heniantang here. Heniantang is an Japanese-imitated building with the inner structure like the Roman opera house. It is praised as No.1 auditorium of eastern Sichuan.

Gunziping Scenic Area

Gunziping Scenic Area is located on the elevation of 800-900 meters with an average temperature of about 14.5℃. Hundreds of thousands mu (1 mu=666.67 square meters) of primitive forests exist here. Since it is so far rarely visited, sceneries in this area are still quite natural and ecological. Here are 4 lakes, 5 caves, 7 stockaded villages, 9 temples, 13 streams, 15 waterfalls, over 50 grotesque stones, more than 200 peaks, 1500 mu bamboo field and 40,000 mu forests. Deep forests, luxurious bamboos, serene lakes, tranquil streams, steep peaks, grotesque stones and splendid waterfalls-all of these form a beautiful picture like a fairyland on earth.
