A Brief Introduction of Shengtian Lake

Shengtian Lake is located in the Pianyan Town under the Huafu Mountain, 48 kilometers away from the Beibei District of Chongqing. On an elevation of 390 meters, it is the source of the Heishuitan River. Shengtian Lake was built by nearly ten thousand people's hard work in ten years. It is a rare artificial lake on mountains in the Bashu area. Shengtian Lake covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers with the water surface of 0.5 square kilometers and is 39 meters deep with a total volume of 15,950,000 cubic meters.

Attractions of Shengtian Lake

Shengtian Lake is surrounded by mountains. The mountains here are steep and the lake is winding, making up the beautiful lake landscapes. Here is characterized by tranquil surroundings, green water, high waterfalls and grotesque stones. In the year of 1987, the Shengtian Lake was listed as Chongqing scenic area. The Shizi Island is covered with lush vegetations. Yixiantian is a steep cliff and the Sanyuan Cave is mysterious and deep. Shengtian Lake is actually an ideal summer resort and a perfect place for visiting and convalescence.

Yixiantian is a gorge in the Shengtian Lake scenic area. Inside the gorge are many grotesque stones. The boundless view of the grotesque and multi-shaped stones may really shock you. You climb difficultly out of the stones and then can see a huge stone rise abruptly from the ground, leaning to one side like a sword.

Sanyuan Cave of Shengtian Lake

Passing the stones, you can see a cave in the forest on halfway of the mountain, and it is called Sanyuan Cave. There are two mouths in the cave, the upper one is the "window" of the cave and visitors can not pass through it. You can enter the cave through the lower one. According to the legend, long long ago, three scholars went to the capital to take part in the exams but they all failed. They were too ashamed to go back to their hometown and so came to the cave to work hard. Later, they three all succeeded and became the "zhuangyuan" (champions), thus the cave obtained its name as Sanyuan (three champions) Cave.
