Changshou Lake lies in the Changshou District of Chongqing, 100 kilometers away from the main urban area of Chongqing and 26 kilometers away from the Changshou District. In Chinese, "Changshou" means longevity, and thus Changshou District is called the "Hometown of Macrobian". Changshou Lake is an artificial fresh lake built in 1956 with water area of 65.5 square kilometers and a volume of 1,000,000,000 cubic meters. It is the largest artificial lake in the southwest area of China. More than 203 islands and islets are distributed in the lake here and there. Stretches of shoals can also be found here. Natural reserves for wild animals have been set up here with 42 different kinds of birds, 28 sorts of waterfowls included, becoming a perfect resort for birds watching.
Changshou Lake was built in 1956 during the period of the first "five-year plan".
In the 1960s and the 1970s, Changshou Lake was regarded as one of the 12 famous scenic spots of Sichuan Province and one of the top 10 scenic spots of Chongqing.
In January 3rd 1992, Changshou Lake scenic area was listed as a provincial-level scenic area by the Chongqing municipal government.
In 1997, Changshou Lake was regarded as one of the Bashu 12 sceneries and was adopted in the project of "One Day Tour of Charming Chongqing".
Changshou Lake scenic area is called the central garden of Chongqing and is full of beautiful scenic spots.
In the Changshou Lake scenic area, you can see a pair of stone lions on the two sides where the Changshou Lake dam begins. The male lion is on the left side while the female one is on the right. The two stone lions are about 3.5 meters high including the foundations. The carvings of the two stone lions are exquisite and superb, thus the lions are quite vivid. There is respectively a pair of baby lions in front of the two lions' chests. More interesting, there is a conch stampeded by the male lion. And the belly of the male lion is hollowed-out in a grotesque shape. When you blow the conch, you can even hear the humming sound.
Yubin Islet on the Changshou Lake is also called Zhu'er Islet, covering an area of about 3,000 square meters. Small and exquisite, it is like a pearl set in the Changshou Lake. With green trees, singing birds and flagrant flowers, gentle-sloping banks and open water, it is an ideal natural resort. Hotels, restaurants, teahouses and ballrooms are set on the Yubin Islet. The water amusement facilities are also developed here.
In the deep of the Changshou Lake scenic area lies a cave. Here are many waterfalls and mountain springs With dark green bamboo forests, and crystal clear waterfalls and mountain springs, the surroundings here is quite tranquil and secluded. It is really a fairyland on earth.
