Attractions of Chongqing Zoo

Chongqing Zoo lies in the western suburb of Chongqing. It was a large-scale zoo built in 1955 covering an area of 45 hectares. With rolling green hills and beautiful natural landscapes which are quite suitable for the existence of animals, there are more than 230 species and no less than 4,000 animals inside the zoo. Chongqing Zoo receives one million visitors from home and abroad.

Main Attractions of Chongqing Zoo

Many rare animals are raised in Chongqing Zoo. There is the rare South China Tiger here. It is thought to be about the rarest kind of tiger. There may be less than 20 left in the wild. They used to live in forests of southern China. They are smaller than most tigers, and look lankier. There is also a Tibetan bear with a yellowish colored head that dances when people give it coke or goodies.

In the Panda House, visitors can see the giant pandas, the national treasure of China and the cat-like small pandas, as well as their offspring. Between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. is the panda feeding time when you can see the pandas feeding. The small panda is a specy of animal that looks like big but unusually long tail cat that move strangely, which is very lovely and fascinating. Even though they look like cats, they are more beautifully colored and do not act like cats.

There are also the Antelope House, Elephant House, Giraffe House, Gorilla House as well as the Endangered Birds House where you can visit the rarely seen animals and the endangered animals.

In the zoo, a man-made lake lies with a small island, a winding bridge and a pavilion connecting one another. Aquatic birds and fishes are also raised in the lake.
