Qinglong Waterfall is located in Wanzhou County, Chongqing. This scenic area is composed of five attractions: Qinglong Waterfall, Ganning Lake, Baiyun Cave, Guanfeng Shuyuan (Shuyuan is an academy of classical learning in old China) and Xiaoyao Mountain Villa. So far, Qinglong Waterfall has been open to the public and its sceneries are really amazing.
Qinglong Waterfall is 64.5 meters in height and 115 meters in width (it is 34 meters wider than Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province) with an area of 7417.5 square meters, thus is recognized as the No. 1 Waterfall in Asia.
Qinglong Waterfall is like a white dragon with silver flowing out and thick mists being spurted out. In the sunshine, many rainbows form and gleam which are dimly discernible, taking on a view of wonderland. The natural Shuilian Cave under the waterfall is a best place for watching the waterfall.
As the Qinglong Waterfall flows, millions of water drops fall and form the Qinglong Pond. The water close to the waterfall is turbulent and white while the water far from the waterfall is tranquil and green, thus obvious differences come into being, which is full of interests.
Under the Qinglong Waterfall lies a big cave, Qinglong Cave with an area of more than 7000 square meters. Inside the cave are holes over holes, which is like a palace. So Qinglong Cave is an ideal place to watch the Qinglong Waterfall as well as a perfect place evoking people's imagination. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, which is very suitable for people to pay a visit to.
There is a Qinglong Spring in the cave. Water in the Qinglong Spring is not but is more than mineral spring water. It is crystal clear like pearls with various natural elements and mineral substances. So it is very sweet and nutritious. Have a taste of the water, you will feel refreshing and full of energy again.
Ganning was a senior general in the Three Kingdoms period. Although he was a Shu Kingdom's people, he served in the Wu Kingdom. He died in the Yiling War which led to the death of the emperor of Shu Kingdom, Liu Bei. His clanmen were afraid of being involved and punished, they concealed their identities and escaped to other places. The local people respected his bravery but dared not to publicize him, so they just built a mound grave and did not set up any stone tablet. Until 1932, a teacher built repaired the tomb and set up two tablets which were shattered in the Cultural Revolution. In recent years, the local people rebuilt the tomb in the scenic area of Qinglong Waterfall to memorize the brave general-Ganning.
The Former Residence of He Qifang is another shining spot of Qinglong Waterfall. He Qifang (1912-1977) was a great poet, essayist and literal critic in the contemporary literature. His hometown is Wanzhou. In his former residence displays his bedroom and study.
