Dahonghai Lake

A Brief Introduction to Simian Mountain

The natural scenic area of Simian Mountain is sited in Jiangjin County which is 140 kilometers away from Chongqing City, with an area of 240 square kilometers and a landform of high in the south and low in the north. The highest peak is Wugong Ridge of 1709.4 meters high. The lowest height above the sea is 560 meters. It belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate with an average temperature of 13.7 centigrade and annual rainfall of 1522.3 millimeters.

Scenic spots in Simian Mountain are multiple with pristine forests, streams, lakes, waterfalls. Landscapes of Danxia Landform are marvelous and amazing.

Dahonghai Lake and Xiaohonghai Lake

Dahonghai Lake is a lake made by a dam. It is about 10,000 meters long. To its left is the forest with flocks of cranes. It is a bamboo forest, dark green leaves sway with the wind. It seems that the green is about to flow out. In the shimmering blue water, mandarin ducks (in China, mandarin ducks are the symbol of love) are swimming and couples of lovers are chanting and laughing.

Xiaohonghai Lake lies amidst of the forests at the end of the Dahonghai Lake. The lake surface is calm and clear, just like a crystal mirror which is set in the green world.

Wangxiangtai Waterfall

Wangxinagtai Waterfall is on the way to the Honghai Lake with a height of 152 meters and a width of 37 meters. It is the most spectacular one in the numerous waterfalls in Simian Mountain. The crystal clear waterfall, like a Milky Way dropping from the sky, is thunderous and turbulent. The prancing mists look like the rolling dust. On both sides of the waterfall form two milk-white airflows. Sunlight passes through the airflows and many beautiful rainbows appear.

Chaoyuan Taoism Temple

In the deep jungles of Shuikou Temple scenic area hides the glorious culture created by the ancestors, that is the Chaoyuan Taoism Temple. Chaoyuan Temple has a very long history of thousands of years. It is a human landscape with a mixing culture of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. The main culture it reflects is the Taoism culture.

Flying Dragon Temple

At the edge of the Dawopu pristine forest surrounded by the mountains stands the ancient temple named Flying Drgon (in Chinese culture, dragon is a holy creature). In front of the temple door, flows the Flying Dragon River. Above the river is a levelbridge built in Qing Dynasty with decoration of stone-made unicorn and lions, seeming very grand.

Pearl Beach

Pearl Beach lies at the south end of the eastern scenic area of Simian Mountain. There is a high platform on the beach. The Pearl Beach surrounds a valley which is several miles long. It is quite flat in the bottom of the valley, thus the water in the valley seems coming from the sky. The crystal clear water shines and shimmers in the sunlight, like millions of pearls, thus the beach obtaining its name.
