Scenic Spots of Three Gorges Dam - Brief Introduction

The Scenic Area of Three Gorges Dam was officially opened to the public in 1997, covering an area of 15.28 square meters. It contains five parks. They are Three Gorges Exhibition Hall, Tanziling Ridge, 185 Scenic Spot, Jinba Scenic Spot and The Memorial Park of Yangtze River Damming. Based on the world's largest hydro junction project, this scenic area reveals the culture of the project and water conservancy in an all-round way. It provides a combination of multi-functional service of sight-seeing, science and education, entertainment, refreshment, perfectly combining modern project with natural scenery and human landscape. Therefore, it is a traveling paradise for tourists from home and abroad.

Three Gorges Dam Exhibition Hall

Three Gorges Dam Exhibition Hall was built and officially opened to the public in 1992.It was inscripted by Zou Jiuhua-the then vice prime minister of the State Council. Its area is about 6,600 square meters. Three Gorges Exhibition Hall is divided into the special exhibitions of Three Gorges engineering construction, migration, development of science and technology, electricity generation, painting and calligraphy, photography and so on. In the Three Gorges Exhibition Hall, there is a colorful spray-painting of the Three Gorges' panorama which is so far the longest in China.

Tanziling Ridge

Being in the first batch of national AAAA rank scenic spots, Tanziling Ridge is also the earliest exploited scenic spot in Three Gorge Dam region. Since the year 1997, Tanziling Ridge started to receive Chinese and foreign tourist officially. The scenic spot was named by the shape of hilltop's gazebo. It is a surprisingly good place for reconnaissance of the Dam's construction. With the altitude of 26,248 meters, Tanziling is the best location for enjoying the sight of the panorama of Three Gorges Dam Project. People can enjoy the sturdiness of Three Gorge Dam, and the steep bidirectional fifth class dam gate , which is called "The forth Dam of Yangtze River".

185 Scenic Spot

At the 185 Scenic Spot, people can look at the Three Gorges Dam horizontally. The 185 Scenic Spot is at the crest of a dam with a length of 2,309 meters a height of 185 meters. Standing at the 185 Scenic Spot and looking down at the scene of flood discharge, people will have a feeling of stamping on the turbulent flood. The picture is really splendid and marvelous. Meanwhile, contrasted with the near overwhelming backwash, the river surface far away is quiet and peaceful. All of a sudden, people may feel the gorgeous blend of vitality and serenity. If it is a sunny day, a colorful rainbow will appear in the water fog above the flood. Gentle wind present by the river soothes the soul and the lullaby murmured by the backwash calm the heart.

Jinba Scenic Spot

Jinba (near the dam) Scenic Spot is located in front of the plant of generator set. It is a perfect site to appreciate the Three Gorges and flood discharge in a close distance. At the Jinba Scenic Spot, people can look up at the Three Gorges.

The Memorial Park of Yangtze River Damming

The Memorial Park of Yangtze River Damming is situated on the right bank, about 800 meters downstream of Three Gorges Dam with an area of 90,000 square meters. It was built with the closure materials after the closure was successfully finished on 6th November 2002. It is a park themed by water conservancy project and also a functional collection of visiting, amusement, education, scientific popularization, performance and leisure.

One of the popular sceneries in the park is the closure stone. The closure stone weighing 28 tons is a symbol of Yangtze River Damming. The actually-used stone during the closure is only half of the stone. Its shape is a 1.30 tetrahedron. Because this is with the best stability in the three-dimensional body, And it can be quickly inserted into the mud underwater, thus blocking water firmly.
