The Golden Eagle Park lies on the Eagle Peak of Chongqing Nanshan Mountain, with a height of 701.13 meters above the sea level and an area of almost 200 mu (1 mu=666.67 square meters). It is the summit of Chongqing Nanshan scenic area and also the summit of Chongqing city. Lush and dark green trees are planted in the park, creating lots of shadow and a pleasant weather during four seasons, hence becoming a prefect resort for leisure and body-building.It is named Golden Eagle Park because of the golden eagle statue stamping on a red conch in the park.
According to the tale, this place was once the territory of birds. One day, a big boa came following countless small hungry ones. They were so hungry that they swallowed the birds once they saw them. The birds were very terrified and in panic. At this time, a phoenix turned to the roc for help. So the roc sent the eagle on mission. The eagle and the big boa started a fierce fight. Eventually, the boa was beaten and ran away. In order to protect other birds from being hurt, the eagle became a peak and guarded here. Later, the peak was called "Eagle Peak".
The Golden Eagle statue was designed by the famous sculptor – Ye Yushan based on the tale of eagle vanquishing the conch. It is about 50 meters high, locating on a 10-meter-high red conch. The weight of the statue is about 2000 tons and its surface is covered with 24 karat (99.9% purity) gold foil. The Golden Eagle is glittering and marvelous with alert, penetrating eyes staring forward. It seems that the eagle will immediately conquer whatever the monsters are.
Climbing up the "belly" of the eagle and looking down at the sight of the major city in the evening, you can see a perfect night scene of Chongqing On the 1st of August in 1988, the Golden Eagle was consecrated by a Tibetan Buddha.
Now, the Golden Eagle has become a landmark of Chongqing.
