A Brief Introduction to Chongqing Nanshan Park

Chongqing Nanshan Park, built in 1959, is located in the provincial-level scenic area of Nanshan Mountain. Its highest height above the sea level is 681 meters. It faces the Chongqing proper across the Yangtze River and is an all-round park based on the forest and characterized by flowers. Negative oxygen ion is rich in the park and the air is very fresh. It is called the "Lung of Chongqing".

Cultural Landscapes in Chingqing Nanshan Park

As a park, Chingqing Nanshan Park has a long history and profound cultural connotations which are reflected by its rich cultural landscapes.

In the park, there are the relic of Dayu, Buddhism and Taoism temples and Wenfeng Tower which were built since the Tang Dynasty, and the 300-year-long historical relic - Iron Mast which was built in Ming Dynasty.

Present Days of Chongqing Nanshan Park

In 1998, the Municipal People's Government of Chongqing decided to expand Nanshan Park. And in 2004, its name was changed into Nanshan Botanical Garden of Chongqing. Nanshan Botanical Garden is an ornamental low-mountain botanical garden with a collection of sub-tropical plants resources.

According to the function, Chongqing Nanshan Park is divided into ornamental forest zone, specified ornamental flowers garden zone, nursery area for scientific research and plant ecological reserve area. It is planned to construct 18 specified gardens. Rose garden, orchid garden, camellia garden, miniascape garden, central landscape garden, Golden Eagle garden and the Yi Ke Shu Sightseeing Platform have already been built.

To meet the different needs of customers, a fully functioning system has been set up in Nanshan Botanical Garden. It is equipped with service center, scientific education rooms, clinics, photographing spots, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, tea houses, cafes and so on.

Meanwhile, large flowers shows such as camellia show, wintersweet show, sakura festival etc. are always held here.
