Guide of Fengdu Attractions

Recommendation: Fengdu Ghost City is the biggest scenic area of Three Gorges. There are Palace of Ghost World, the biggest ghost rock carving in the world and national forest park, Shuanggui Mountain. On the south bank, there are Nantian Lake, Xueyu Cave and Siping Forest Park. It has become a leisure natural scenic area which combines dissolved cavern and rafting.

Xueyu Cave (Snow Jade Cave)

It is located on the cliff of Longhe Valley and faces Mingshan Mountain across Yangtze River. It is 12 kilometers far from Fengdu proper. Xueyu Cave (Snow Jade Cave) is a mysterious underground cave and also the classic one of dissolved caverns of China. It is highly appraised because of its values in the field of tourism and scientific research.

Longhe Rafting

Longhe, rising from Wulong Mountain of Qianjiang, extends 140 kilometers and empty into Yangtze River at Fengdu. It is a tributary of Yangtze River. And it is noted for its elegant scenery, showls and rapids, dissolved caverns and waterfalls. It is an ideal place for rafting, camping and adventure. It is called the No.1 rafting of Three Gorges.

Longhe Rafting, starting from Maliang Bridge, extends 12 kilometers and takes about 2.5 hours. It passes through 5 canyons and over 30 showls. Steep cliffs stand high on both banks and the gorge is servene and beautiful. Visitors can not only experience the excitement, but also enjoy the pastoral scenery during the rafting.

Besides Xueyu Cave, there are also Xiannu (Fairy Lady) Cave and Sanwang (Three Kings) Cave on the steep cliffs of the banks along Longhe River. The waterfalls also add vitality to Longhe Scenery.

Nantian Lake Scenic Area

Nantian Lake Scenic Area, located at Sanfu Forest Area of Fengdu, is near to Xiannu Mountain of Wulong and is the biggest alpine lake of southwest China.

The entire scenic area covers an area of 44 square kilometers. It is a ecological tourist attraction which combines virgin forest, heavenly pit and earthly crack, alpine lake, meadow and ancient culture. The main scenic spots include professional skiing ground, Niuqian Gorge, Field of Firs, Chinese Chestnut Garden, Shanwang Palace, Nantian Lake and Cormorant Pool.

Nantian Lake: is the most important scenic spot of this area, covering an area of 5 sqaure kilometers. According to the research of experts, Nantian Lake is an ancient and mysterious lake which was formed during Himalaya Orogeny about 25 million years ago. The water storage capacity used to be about 100 million cubic meters.

And then, it was affected by its Karst geology. The water level went down continuously. Currently, the water storage is about 400 thousand cubic meters.

Niuqian Gorge: located at the eastern entrance of Nantian Lake Scenic Area, covers an area of 4 square meters. It consists of Xiaoshiyuan heavenly pit, Gufoling Cliff, Niujiaojian Stone Forest and Luanjia South Heaven Gate. Xiaoshiyuan Heavenly Pit and Gufoling Cliff face each other. One is 200 meters high cliff and the other one is 150 meters deep pit. These two form an interesting scenery of Niuqian Gorge.

Field of Firs: It covers an area of 10 square kilometers. There are firs introduced from foreign countries in 1950s and there are also other attractive scenic spots, such as Shizikou Sightseeing Platform, Wildhog Pond, Golden Basin Pond, Haikan Tower, and Shanye Villa.

Chinese Chestnut Garden: It covers an area of about 2 square kilometers. It is a typical farmland. White clouds and blue sky, the sea of forest, evergreen meadow, flocks of cattle and sheeps make a beautiful painting of leisure life.

Shanwang Palace: It is noted for Shanwang Temple where local people pray for happiness. The entire area is misty and cloudy, and covered with green trees and grass. Visitors can participate grass skiing in summer and snow skiing in winter.

Cormorant Pool: It is a lake where the water is as green as jade and it is only 2 kilomters away from Shannu Mountain. It covers an area of 3 square kilometers. The surface of the lake is like a mirror and the reflection of the sky and forests is the unque scenery only can be seen in paintings.
