Three Gorges' Scenic Spots

Three Gorges ,the most wonderful and magnificent canyon on the longest river of China, consists of Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge and Xiling Gorge. It starts from Baidicheng (White Emperor City) of Fengjie County to Nanjin Pass of Yichang in Hubei province. It extends for 193 kilometers.

Three Gorges is one of the top 10 attractions in China and also a world famous scenic area. Its unique natural scenery and long history attract more and more visitors from all over the world.

Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge, Xiling Gorge

Qutang Gorge, also called Kui Gorge, starts from Baidicheng (White Emperor City) of Fengjie County to Daxi township of Wushan County. It extends 8 kilometers and it is the shortest canyon of Three Gorges which is famous for its magnificent view.

Wuxia Gorge, extending 46 kilometers, is famous for its elegance and beauty. Wuxia Gorge consists of eastern part and western part. There are Golden Helmet and Silver Armor Gorge and Jianchuan Gorge in western part and eastern part consists of Iron Coffin Gorge and Menshan Gorge. It is always cloudy and rainy in the canyon. So it makes a spectacle called "Rainclouds Over Wushan". It is like in a delicate beautiful gallery. You can absolutely enjoy the awe inspiring view.

Xiling Gorge, extending 76 kilometers, is the longest canyon in Three Gorges. It is famous for its dangerous shoals and reefs. And there are Military Books and Precious Sword Gorge, Ox Liver and Horse Lung Gorge, Kongling Gorge and Lantern Shadow Gorge.

Three Gorges Dam Project

The Three Gorges Dam, key water control project of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River was formally started on December 14 1994, and the total time of construction is expected to be 18 years. The first phase of the project was completed in October 1997 when the great dam closed. The second phase was completed in 2003 while the water level upstream of the dam was raised to 135 meters above sea level. After third phase completed, and according to plan, the water level upstream of the dam was raised to 165 meters above sea level by 2006, and to 175 meters by 2009. This is a feat in the history of China's development of her water resources, and adds a new wonder, beside the wonder by nature, to the Three Gorges on the Yangtze, the gold tourist route in China.

Other Scenic Spots of Three Gorges

There are also many historical and cultural relics in Three Gorges. Baidicheng (White Emperor City), Hometown of Qu Yuan, Hometown of Zhaojun and Three Visitors Cave seem to lead visitors to a wonderful historical myth. And Goddess Peak tells you the legends and tales about Three Gorges. The water and mountains are different in shapes and present a colorful gallery to visitors.
