Chexi Folk Culture Scenic Area of Three Gorges

Chexi Folk Culture Scenic Area of Three Gorges is a National AAAA Scenic Area, the model site of National Agriculture Tour, one of Top 10 Scenic Areas and one of the New Top 10 Sceneries of Three Gorges. It is located at the Chexi autonomous village of Yichang and it is 18 kilometers from Yichang Proper.

The scenic area extends 7.5 kilometers and consists of ten scenic spots (Shixian Valley – Stone Fairy Valley, Bachu Homeland Garden, Three Gorges Folk Culture Village, Farm Museum, Waterwheel Museum, Former Site of People's Commune, Tianlong Grotto, Grotesque Stone Museum, Wind Cave and Wangyou Valley). Chexi Folk Culture Scenic Area is servene and peaceful like Arcadia. There are magnificent peaks, grotesque stones, strange caves, splendid waterfalls and crystal springs. The scenic area combines natural scenery and cultural resource perfectly.

There are not only geographical miracle – Tianlong Grotto, the huge dissolved cavern – Wind Cave and wild wintersweets of 3,000 acres, but also servene and quiet Wangyou Valley, elegant Shixian Valley and touching tales about Cowherd and Weaving Girl. It presents the agricultural traditions and Three Gorges cultures of ancient China.

The beautiful Chexi Folk Culture Scenic Area of Three Gorges is not only famous for its natural beauty, but also the interesting customs of Tujia Nationality.

As mentioned above, the area is composed of ten smaller scenic spots, and can be summarized into four major points: geographical landscape, vegetation landscape, agricultural performance and folk custom performance. The area has gained the fame of "homeland in dream". Stepping on this tranquil and charming land, you are far away from the noise of city, and the worries and sorrows are pushed away at this time. The green mountains and limpid water enable you feel the real happiness of embracing the nature. In Chexi, there is a special area called Three Gorges Folk Custom Village. The village mainly contains the customs of Tujia Nationality, the largest minority in western Hubei Province. In the village, visitors can appreciate the folk custom performance of Tujia people, and take part in the interesting folk activities. Moreover, there are special performances for you to know the life styles of this diligent and pure nationality.

During decades of construction, the Chexi Folk Culture Scenic Area of Three Gorges is making continuous efforts to make it better. Besides the nuclear attraction of folk customs, the village also developed other attractions, such as the water mill museum, the site of former people's commune and natural sceneries. At present, the area receives hundreds and thousands visitors every day.
